This ain’t your mama’s Mexican restaurant. I got a taco with French fries in it. FRENCH FRIES PEOPLE!
And yet, the cool and delicious house made margaritas and the guacamole reminds me that I am, in fact, in a Mexican restaurant. Gringos downtown Greenville is one of my new favorite spots to eat. As I mentioned before, the menu is as eclectic as the decor on their walls. They also have a nice upstairs patio area, perfect for relaxing during a happy hour after work.
From the chicken and waffle taco (which I’ll talk about later) to the fried pickles to the surf and turf enchilada, the menu will keep you debating on what to get next! A word of advice, start off with their House Margaritas and some of their yummy guacamole. I literally was eating that stuff with a fork it was so good– don’t judge. Plus, happy hour (4-7pm most days) means the margaritas are only $3!
After much back and forth, Graham ended up going with the ‘She Always Answers’ burrito with ground beef, Monterry Jack cheese, queso, black beans, roasted corn, red onion, rice, and grilled peppers. I’m not a big bean fan, but even I had to take a bite of his meal. The warm queso seemed to harmonize all the flavors together.
I ended up with the Baja Fish taco and the Bacon Cheeseburger taco. I love a good fish taco, and this is a good fish taco! Served with cilantro, shredded cabbage, cheese, pickled onions and a Jalapeno Blanco sauce.
The Bacon Cheeseburger taco was the bomb (does anyone use the expression anymore?). It was loaded with ground beef, bacon, shredded cheese, queso, lettuce, tomato, and, yes, FRENCH FRIES. The flavor profiles were exactly that of a bacon cheeseburger but uniquely repurposed in a warm, flour tortilla.
Now, you don’t have to go that “adventurous” if you don’t want to. They offer the normal options of beef tacos if you want to play it safe. But, where’s the fun in that?? If you are in the Greenville area, you need to try this place! It’s located at 11 West Camperdown Way. For more information, check out their Facebook page.
